Fred R. Varner indicates that on Sunday, November 22, 1896, Selby Yost, motorman for the Alameda Electric Railway Line, and his passengers watched a light moving in an undulating fashion through the air. He notes that Alameda is about eight miles east-southeast of San Francisco. [2]
