40 years after the occurrence, Scottish ufologist Ron Halliday interviewed Andrew Cherry, sighting witness when he was a 22-year-old factory worker employed by Woods Bottle Works in the Portobello district of Edinburgh, Scotland, in July 1947.
At that time at 05:30 a.m. at dawn, on a beautiful summer's morning, as Mr. Cherry waited at his usual bus stop close to St John's School in Baileyfield Road, glancing skywards, he caught sight of a strange object he estimated to be 12 to 15 feet in length, disc-shaped with what looked like a large glass dome in the style of an observation window. It was hovering about 300 feet above the ground; which is said to be close enough for him to get a clear view of its humanoid occupant.
This "alien" was wearing dark clothes and was sitting or standing beside a control panel of some kind. Cherry also noted the marked metal texture of the spacecraft "like rough diamonds", and the "orange-yellow color" that he thinks may have been simply a reflection of the sun's rays.
The area around the object looked hazy, "possibly owing to the object's energy source". Mr. Cherry could hear a low, smooth hum, which he associated with the flames he could see escaping from the disc.
The disc showed tremendous power as it tilted, spun away and disappeared over the Fife coast in a matter of seconds.
Mr. Cherry described his experience as "ghostly, eerie and awesome" and the event made such a profound impression on him that he has never forgotten what he saw.

The web page indicates that Andrew Cherry, a 22 year old factory worker, was employed by Woods Bottle Works in the Portobello district of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The web site indicates that the report was first published in "UFO Scotland", a book by Ron Halliday who personally interviewed Andrew Cherry, and although the interview took place some 40 years after the sighting, said Andrew Cherry "still had a good memory of it though."
[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:
Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Edinburgh, Scotland, on July 1947, at 05:30 a.m., 22-year old Andrew Cherry waited at his usual bus stop close to St Johns School in Baileyfield Road.
Glancing skywards, he caught sight of a strange object, disc-shaped with what looked like a large glass dome in the style of an observation window. The UFO was hovering about 300 ft above the ground, close enough for Cherry to get a clear view of its humanoid occupant.
The "alien" was wearing dark clothes and was sitting or standing beside a control panel of some kind.
He also noted the marked metal texture of the spacecraft - "like rough diamonds" - and the orange yellow color, which he thinks was simply a reflection of the sun's rays. The area around the object looked hazy, possibly owing to the object's energy source. Cherry could hear a low, smooth hum, which he associated with the flames he could see escaping from the disc.
The object suddenly tilted, spun away and disappeared over the Fife coast in a matter of seconds.
Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Ron Halliday, UFO Scotland.
As there is no possibility from the available data to determine in an objective and sure manner that the sighting report is truthful, all that can be said is that if it is truthful, it does not look to be readily explainable as some confusion of some sort.
The only slightly worrying aspect of the report is the notion that an occupant would be clearly seen at a sighting distance of 90 meters; however, this probably only meant that the witness could clearly see that there was an occupant in the object, not that he could clearly see the characteristics of the occupant. The report itself confirms this, as the occupant apparently could not be detailed.
I verified the possible lighting conditions in Edinburgh in September 1947 before daylight saving around 05:30 a.m., and it appears that the sighting could have been at dawn, or just before dawn, or just after dawn.
