BRIGHT FLYING DISK REPORTED IN JERSEY
Special to The New York Times
WANAQUE, N.J., Jan. 13. -- For the second night in a row,
residents of this and neighboring Ramapo mountain community
have reported seeing an unidentified flying object hovering,
soaring and diving over the countryside and disappearing
in the distance.
Most accounts of the object including those by two policemen
and a guard at the Wanaque Reservoir, agreed that it was "very
white, very bright and much bigger than a star." to some it
appeared as a "big white disk."
Wanaque Mayor Harry T. Wolfe was among those who reported
seeing the object. He drove to the reservoir after having been
alerted by local police.
The first report came to the local police radio station at
6:30 P.M. Tuesday. After receiving about 30 phone calls from
residents and motorists, the radio monitor called Wanaque Patrolman
Joseph Cisco.
He was told that "people in Oakland, Ringwood, Paterson, Totowa,
Wayne and Butler claim there's a flying saucer over the Wanaque." there were
additional reports of the object last night.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 (AP). -- The Air Force said today that two sightings in
the sky over New Jersey were believed to have been the planet Venus and Jupiter,
rather than unidentified objects.
